7 Signs Your A/C Needs Repairs
Welcome to summer Saskatchewan! To us at Action Plumbing and Heating, that means your A/C better be working. Saskatchewan summer’s are beautiful, but lets keep your home cool. This week we would like to take a closer look at your air conditioning. If you haven’t read our other blog about saving money on your A/C, please read it here.
A/C Maintenance
The number one question we get asked is, how often should I get repairs on my A/C. We say you should think of your air conditioning like you do your car. If you don’t get an oil change you will ruin your car. If you don’t get your A/C serviced you will ruin your A/C. We recommend you do this once a year. This is because your A/C collects dust, dirt and other particles as it operates, this junk collects in the unit and makes the unit have to work harder. When it works harder it takes more energy to run and get to the desired temperature, which means your energy bill goes up.
Signs Your A/C is not working properly
No cool air- This one is obvious, if you turn your unit on and it doesn’t pump out any cool air after 15 minutes, you should have it checked.
Poor Air Flow- Check your vents, is the air flow weaker in some of them than others? This may be a sign your compressor is failing. If some rooms are cooler than others, it may be an issue with your ductwork...or it may just mean that room gets more sunlight.
Thermostat- It may be that the issue is your thermostat and not your A/C! If that is the case we will have a look and will happily recommend a superior thermostat!
Moisture- If you are finding moisture where it shouldn’t be, this may be a sign you need to call a professional quick! Worst case scenario it is the condensate that is leaking if this is the case you should call us. More often than not the moisture will be water. If this is the case, you still need to get that repaired as it means you possibly have a blockage that needs to be taken care of.
Strange Sounds- If the unit is squeaking, rattling or squealing it means something is out of place or broken. You should have this looked at right away as it may mean something is broken inside.
Strange Odours- Foul stenches from your A/C vents may mean your units wire insulation has burned out. Musty smells mean your ductwork needs to be cleaned out as there may be mold in them.
Electricity Bill- If your bill is higher than normal, it may mean your HVAC system (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) is not working at peak efficiency and needs to be cleaned or repaired. Give us a call and we will come and inspect your unit to see if we can help lower your energy bill.
